Foreword
We Love to Read and Share is a showcase for the serious reading reflections done by our students and teachers over the past year as part of our endeavours to promote extensive reading at Fukien Secondary School. The fruits are seen not only in the number of books our students have checked out from the school library this year, but also in the joy and love of reading as manifested in students' book reviews. At Fukien Secondary School, students read a wide range of graded fiction and non-fiction texts like short stories, novels and biographies as required in the formal school-based English curriculum. They also keep a reading log with reflections on their own reading experiences as we believe reading without reflecting is like eating without digesting. Through the process of reflection, an appreciation of literary works, critical thinking and a better understanding of life from a global perspective can be fostered, which we believe is crucial to the development of the whole person. This collection also contains reviews by some of our English and non-English teachers. Reading is therefore being promoted by all the teachers of Fukien Secondary School. This is only a first step towards the goal of fostering a reading culture. It is hoped that this collection will inspire the young minds and a passion for reading will be successfully nurtured.
